12th October 2007 Print
Climate change is a real concern for investors, according to a survey conducted by Schroders.

78% believed that businesses are beginning to see climate change as a real issue

45% of investors saw climate change as a long term investment trend

25% said that climate change affected their investment decision

Robin Stoakley, Managing Director, Schroders’ UK Retail Business, comments: “This research shows that investors are beginning to realise the impact that climate change is already having on the corporate landscape, with 45% seeing it as a long term investment trend and 78% believing that businesses are beginning to see climate change as a real issue. The underlying theme here is that a large number of investors questioned, believe that climate change is a powerful enough force to change the global corporate landscape, thereby making it one of the most exciting long term investment themes of the future. We believe that companies that successfully mitigate or adapt to climate change have the potential to generate strong returns and outperform the world market over time.”

Simon Webber, Manager of the Schroder Global Climate Change Fund comments; “Investors simply can’t afford to ignore the realities of climate change. Across all sectors, climate change will have a broad and lasting impact along the value chain. For the mainstream equity investor, now is the time to adopt a global approach to what will be a major investment theme for the foreseeable future.”

The Schroder Global Climate Change Fund opened to investors on Friday 28th September 2007. Minimum investment is £1,000 lump sum or £50 per month. Initial charge is 5.25% and annual management charge is 1.5%.
