London’s first Cupcakery opens for business Not to be outdone by NY or L.A., where cupcake shops are sprouting up on every corner, London now counts with its own cupcakery. Buttercup cake shop recently opened its doors on a quiet road off Kensington High Street. “Hard to find but worth the hunt” is the shop’s motto. And if you love cake, you will indeed find it worth the hunt!

The first London bakery dedicated solely to cupcakes, buttercup boasts an impressive array of more-ish American-style "fairy cakes" all made daily by hand and ranging from the "vanilla purist" to such original creations as banoffee, chocolate cinnamon, sticky toffee or cookies 'n' cream cupcakes.

Buttercup founder, Donna Egan, a transplant from California, says “I was looking to elevate to a new height the cupcakes I enjoyed as a child, so we use only the finest ingredients like Callebaut Belgian chocolate, sweet creamery butter and Nielsen-Massey vanilla. We’ve tested and adjusted our recipes over and over in order to achieve just the right taste and texture of the American cupcakes here in the UK.”

Buttercup cupcakes are a seriously addictive treat for yourself or colleagues or showcased in their bespoke boxes they make an original gift for family and friends.

Stop by Monday to Saturday to experience the down-home American customer service, including seeing your own favourite combination of cake, icing and sprinkles brought together just for you. Or phone ahead for delivery across London. Cupcakes £28/dozen or £2.50/each for take-away.

The cupcakery is at 16 St. Albans Grove, London.
