World-Class chefs share secrets for Crisis

Twenty-eight internationally renowned chefs have come together to create the Crisis Cook Book, a collection of 84 of their favourite recipes in aid of the national homelessness charity Crisis. The recipes are then followed by 10 short wine essays on how to maximise your enjoyment of wine written by acclaimed wine writer Jancis Robinson.

The Crisis Cook Book will be on sale at Marks & Spencer and via Amazon stores from 26 November. It costs £5 with £3 from each copy going to Crisis.

Nicholas Lander, editor of The Crisis Cook Book, said, “For the past 18 years I have had the good fortune to be the restaurant correspondent of The Financial Times which has brought me into close contact with some of the best chefs in the world. Their expertise and generosity form the basis of this book. The unique attraction of the Crisis Cook Book is the opportunity to create, from one slim volume, a dinner party where each course is inspired by a different world class chef.”

Among the contributors, each of whom has submitted a favourite starter, main course and dessert, are: Paul Bocuse, Alain Ducasse and Joel Robuchon from France; Mario Batali, Michael Romano and Alice Waters from the US; and from the UK, Heston Blumenthal, Sally Clarke, Anthony Demetre, Chris Galvin, Mark Hix, Simon Hopkinson, Nigel Howarth, Tom Kitchin, Rowley Leigh, Bruce Poole and Rick Stein (see over for a full list of contributors).

Above all the book is meant to be fun and inspirational but because all the contributors are professional chefs it is not intended for the absolute beginner. Some of the recipes are easier than others but anyone who wants to have a go at Ferran Adria’s main course recipe is undoubtedly setting themselves quite a challenge!

Although the book will be released before Christmas to tie in with the charity’s large Crisis Open Christmas event which helps feed and support over 2,000 homeless people, these recipes are not just festive. Like the services, which the charity provides they are to be used all year round.
