Enjoy Chocolate Afternoon Tea at the Baglioni Hotel

23rd July 2008 Print
The very British tradition of taking afternoon tea or low tea goes way back to the early 19th Century where in England at the time there were only two main meals a day. It was fashionable during this period for the upper classes to eat dinner very late in the evening with lunch always at Noon.

Legend has it that the then Duchess of Bedford (1788-1861) complained of “a sinking feeling” in the late afternoon and started taking a pot of tea with bread and butter in her rooms as a remedy. Soon she was inviting friends to join her and so a British institution was born.

This August, Brunello at The Baglioni Hotel launches its brand new chocolate afternoon tea, which combines this truly British pastime with the Italian love of stopping mid afternoon for a rich cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream and a homemade chocolate pastry or two.
