Record breaker teams up with Flybe to make history

On February 15, Flybe helped to keep 81 year old aviation enthusiast Edwin Shackleton in the Guinness Book of World Records as the passenger who has flown in more different types of aircraft than anyone else.

At the last count, Mr Shackleton had flown in an incredible 851 different aircraft types, however, the one aircraft missing from his collection was the Embraer 195. And now, to make sure he maintains this record for 2008, he will be adding it to his list and Flybe - the world’s first operator of the E195s – is helping to make this reality.

Mr Shackleton, who lives in Bristol, will be making a return journey out of Exeter on the scheduled Alicante flight BE1367/8. The state of the art 118-seat jet aircraft will be flown by Flybe Captain Gaeron Kayley with a flight time of just over two hours.

Congratulating him on his record-breaking flight, Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer said:

“When we learnt that Mr Shackleton had yet to fly on an Embraer 195, Flybe was delighted to offer him the opportunity to take the short hop to Southern Spain with us to make sure he retains his place in the Guinness Book of Records. The Embraer 195 is a fantastic aircraft that not only offers enhanced passenger comfort but also sets new standards in lowering noise and CO2 emissions and sits well with Flybe’s reputation as an airline that invests in the newest technology available”.

Mr Shackleton added:

“I’m very grateful to Flybe for arranging this flight for me and helping me stay in the Guinness Book of Records. I am passionate about aviation and have seen an amazing amount of development over the years. Its really good to see new aircraft like the Embraer 195 replacing some of the older well-loved but essentially out of date aeroplanes.”
