Monarch to introduce new baggage charges

21st September 2007 Print
From this week low fares airline, flyMonarch.com will be introducing a new baggage charge scheme for all hold baggage checked in on its scheduled flights. In line with other UK low fares airlines, flyMonarch.com will be implementing a charge for each bag that is checked in on flights departing after 01 November 2007.

Bags will be charged at £3.99 / €5.99 / CY£3.99 per bag*, per one way flight if pre-booked online, offering a £6 saving against passengers paying at the airport, where a charge of £10 / €16 / CY£10 per bag, per one way flight will apply. Hold baggage can also be pre-booked via the flyMonarch.com Call Centre where bags will be charged at £8 / €12 / CY£8 per bag per one way flight.

Commenting on the introduction of the scheme, managing director of flyMonarch.com, Liz Savage, said “It is now common practice amongst airlines to charge those customers who elect to take hold baggage and by doing this we will be able to keep our flight prices low.

“Since the launch of our online check-in service earlier this year, there has been a notable reduction in the amount of hold baggage carried on our flights. Passengers are preferring to minimise the time spent in queues at the airport, opting to check in from home and by-passing the fast bag-drop desks at the airports by travelling with hand luggage only.”

Passengers on scheduled flights are still able to take advantage of flyMonarch.com’s generous hand baggage allowance which allows one carry-on bag per person up to 10kg in weight and within the standard DFT dimensions, 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

flyMonarch.com operates scheduled flights to Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal and Cyprus from Aberdeen, Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester airports and was named as Leisure Airline of the Year in recent Travel Industry Awards for the second year in succession. In addition to year-round low fares, flyMonarch.com also offers a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals onboard with prices from £3.00.

Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all experienced on some other airlines, or from only £15, why not try one of our 48 extra-legroom seats which offer up to six inches of extra space? Regular travellers are rewarded too, with a range of benefits through the airline’s loyalty scheme, Vantage Club.

Passengers travelling on scheduled flights can also avoid the queues at the airport and take advantage of online check-in which is available between 24 and 4.5 hours prior to departure or from 36 hours if you are a Vantage Club member.

* Passengers are permitted a maximum hold baggage allowance of 20kg per person.
