Get Svelte for Summer

At long last, summer is finally on its way after the long winter! This means it’s time to start thinking about getting into shape so you can flash the flesh more confidently as the temperature rises.

Low-carb, low-cal and low-GI not working? Despite our hardest efforts, many of us can find it difficult to shift those ‘last few pounds’. You’ve restricted your calories and been exercising regularly, but continue to gain weight. There are a number of things that could be contributing to this; one of them is that your body is aggravated by a certain food/foods that you are eating.

Recent research published in Obesity & Weight loss Therapy  suggested a direct correlation between food intolerance and weight gain - this means that by simply cutting trigger foods out of your diet, your ‘battle with the bulge’ could be over. With even seemingly healthy foods such as lettuce having the potential to cause a reaction, it is really worth finding out your own personal triggers.

The research assessed the effect that IgG food sensitivity tests and the subsequent elimination of trigger foods for a period of 90 days, had on the body composition and quality of life of 120 overweight people. The results showed that the subjects who eliminated the foods they reacted to “had reductions in weight, body mass index, waist and hip circumference… and all indicators of quality of life”.

“Food intolerance is a serious issue and is often misdiagnosed. I meet numerous clients who consistently eat healthy and exercise regularly but still find it hard to shift those ‘last few pounds’. Food intolerances can cause an immune response in the body which can lead to weight gain or difficulty in losing weight” nutritionist, Alli Godbold.

Dr. Gill Hart, Scientific Director at YorkTest, explains: “A stressed digestive system is less able to process energy and nutrients for the rest of the body. It will also be less able to repel harmful invaders and may be more prone to disorders such as IBS. Once the immune response is triggered in the body, it feels that it is ‘under siege’ thus hoarding supplies, storing fluid and increasing weight.”

To help identify undiagnosed food intolerances that could be hampering your summer body preparations, help is at hand from YorkTest Laboratories, Europe’s leading provider of food and drink intolerance testing with over 30 years’ experience. The YorkTest food and drink intolerance test, Food&DrinkScan, can uncover potential food and drink triggers, allowing people to simply modify their diets with life changing health benefits.

Food&DrinkScan measures reactions to 158 foods and also ingredients found in beverages.

A FirstStep Test is available for the offer price of £9.99 (usually £19.99).  Following the FirstStep, if your result is positive you can then progress to either the FoodScan, which tests for intolerances to 113 trigger foods for £250, or the full Food&DrinkScan for £299. For a limited time, if you progress to the full Food&DrinkScan after taking the FirstStep, the initial test price will be discounted from the cost of your full test.

Unlike other more basic tests available, YorkTest customers will be fully supported with their dietary changes. Food&DrinkScan offers comprehensive patient support that includes:

Two telephone consultations with a BANT  registered nutritional therapist who will offer specific individual advice

Help on how to incorporate the recommended diet changes

A 12 week food diary with diet tips to help sufferers keep track of the changes they are making to their diet.
