The award-winning Minnis Bar & Restaurant in Birchington, Kent, has been selected as one of the county’s top dining destinations that will represent the best of Kent in the South East edition of the new Relish South East cookbook.

The beach-front restaurant is known for its home cured, pickled and smoked dishes using local seasonal produce.

The high quality, 420 page saddle-stitched, hard back edition of Relish South East will be published in January 2015. It will devote 10 pages to The Minnis, its chef-patron and his team. Costing £20, the book will be available at Harvey Nichols, at leading book shops including Waterstones and online. Signed copies will also be available at The Minnis.

The other Kent restaurants included are TV chef Richard Phillips’s Michelin-starred Thackeray’s in Tunbridge Wells, Reads in Faversham, The Swan in Malling and ABode in Canterbury.

“It’s a great honour to be invited into the company of such exalted chefs and is testimony to the quality of the fresh local produce available in Thanet that we are able to put on our menus,” said Jason.

Jason’s featured recipes are a starter of Home Smoked Local Wood Pigeon with Black Pudding; main of Jacobs Ladder – a short rib of Kentish Beef; with the “ Best Chocolate Tart Ever!” to finish.

These dishes will be served at a special dinner at The Minnis Friday 27th February 2015 to help launch the book. The three course dinner with matched wines will cost £35 a head, and includes one signed copy of Relish South East for each couple.

The menu is inspired by the season - flavour is king - big food that you want to eat and eat again. There’s nothing nouvelle or fine dining about these dishes. The main course is one that I really want to eat on a cold miserable night to warm the very soul,” said Freedman.

Details will be available on The Minnis’ website theminnis.co.uk and via Twitter @theminnis.

The book also includes recipes from other top restaurants in the South East including Drakes and Terre a Terre, Brighton ; Chequers Inn and South Lodge in Horsham; Abinger Hatch, Dorking; The White Horse, Romsey; Boulters Riverside Brasserie, Maidenhead, Deans Place Hotel , Alfriston; French Table, Surbiton; Earl of March, Chichester; Montagu Arms, Beauleiu; Dysart, Petersham; and Ockenden Manor, Haywards Heath.

“Relish South East promises to be one of our best ever publications, featuring outstanding recipes, great locations and passionate chefs,” said Relish Publisher Duncan Peters.”

The book will be launched at Ockenden Manor on 26th January and will bring together the region’s leading lights and some of the most talented chefs in the country for a one day celebration.
