The fuel surcharge on domestic German and intra-European routes will increase by three euros to 27 euros per flight segment. On long-haul routes the corresponding fuel surcharge will be raised by five euros to 97 euros per flight segment. The increases will apply to all Lufthansa tickets issued on or after 17 July 2008.


Lufthansa has this month published a new issue of its "Balance" sustainability report giving a broad sweep of the Group’s activities, the advances it has made and its future objectives in the environmental, business, societal and social fields.

Lufthansa spells out ambitious goals in its strategic environmental programme. The Group has specified 15 guidelines to steer its path towards realisation of further decisive progress in environmental efficiency by the year 2020. The 14th issue of the Report is scheduled to be published shortly.


This coming weekend marks the start of a new era for air travellers. From 1 June 2008, only electronic tickets will be issued for Lufthansa flights as well as for flights operated by all other IATA airlines.

From 28 April, passengers flying Lufthansa from Hamburg to Munich or Frankfurt will be able to use the new mobile boarding pass service. With this innovative service, passengers who have an Internet-enabled phone can be sent an electronic boarding pass by email or SMS link.


At this year’s Lufthansa Annual General Meeting in Cologne, Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber unveiled record profit and revenue figures to the shareholders for the second year running.


Lufthansa has chosen the UK and Ireland as a key launch market for its pioneering Mobile Services product. Now, by simply using their mobile phones to access the new portal, mobile.lufthansa.com, passengers can quickly book flights, check in and select their seats on an interactive seat map, even when on the move.


Lufthansa is further expanding its services to key Indian cities for business and leisure travellers alike. From 1 July 2008, Germany’s largest airline will launch a new route from Frankfurt to Pune in western India. In all comfort passengers will be able to reach Pune non-stop, six times a week in an Airbus A319 which has been refitted as a Business Jet.


The Swiss star chef from the famous La Marmite restaurant in St. Moritz has created special menus for Lufthansa passengers travelling in First and Business Class during the months of May and June.


Lufthansa is officially the most reliable airline operating from London Heathrow Airport following the publication of Punctuality Statistics for 2007. The figures for the 30 largest scheduled airlines serving Heathrow show that the average delay on Lufthansa’s 20,810 flights during the year on was just 12.22 minutes. This is more than seven minutes less than the average delay at the airport.


From 4 April 2008, Ethiopian Airlines and Lufthansa passengers can fly with either airline on routes between Frankfurt and the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. Customers will then have a choice of seven flights per week on this route.


The new passenger handling area between the C and D concourses in Terminals 1 and 2 will be officially inaugurated at Frankfurt Airport today. With two waiting levels and amply dimensioned bridges, the new pier in the passageway linking the C and D concourses meets optimally all the requirements for operations with Lufthansa’s future flagship, the Airbus A380.


Following a successful three month trial, Lufthansa has introduced a dedicated Personal Assistant service for its First Class customers and HON Circle members at London-Heathrow, the very first Lufthansa station in Europe to benefit from this unique service. A similar service is also being introduced at London City Airport.


Lufthansa is building up its own private jet fleet in the course of this year. The first of the new aircraft, a Cessna Citation CJ3, is due for delivery to the airline in April. All in all, nine new private jets will be entering service in the coming months.

With the introduction of the summer flights schedules, Lufthansa is commencing its first flights to Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, from 1 April 2008.


Deutsche Lufthansa AG and JetBlue Airways Corporation have this week completed their stock purchase agreement transaction in which Lufthansa now holds a 19 percent stake in JetBlue.


Next summer, Lufthansa is opening a new route from Frankfurt to Bergen. The new Lufthansa service, which will operate twice daily, year round, will be launched on 30 March 2008, when the summer timetable goes into effect. Bergen is the third destination in Norway after Oslo and Stavanger to be served from Frankfurt by Germany’s largest carrier.

The airline is valued highly by business travellers because of its high safety standards. Lufthansa Technik AG has been asked by Lufthansa’s historic flight foundation Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin-Stiftung (DLBS) to restore a historic Lufthansa aircraft to airworthy condition. A Lockheed L1649A Super Star, which in 1958 became the first long-haul airliner operated by Lufthansa capable of crossing the Atlantic without refuelling, is to take to the air again in 2010 as an unforgettable contributor to Lufthansa tradition.


Lufthansa Technik has today opened the first section of the new A380 maintenance hangar in Frankfurt within around 20 months since the start of construction on the first phase of the facility. On about 25,000 square metres of floor space, there is enough room already in the completed stage of the hangar to carry out maintenance work, simultaneously, on two Airbus A380s or three Boeing 747s.


Lufthansa is all set to continue its growth in the New Year. To accommodate future expansion, Germany’s biggest airline will be taking on close to 4,300 new staff in 2008. The need for further employees is particularly great in operating areas, where Lufthansa is seeking 2,000 flight attendants and 1,000 other staff for passenger support as “Service Professionals” at Frankfurt and Munich Airports.


In January and February 2008, First and Business Class passengers on Lufthansa’s longhaul routes will have an opportunity to savour menus designed by a top international chef. For eight weeks, Anne-Sophie Pic from the Maison Pic restaurant in Valence in southern France will create palate-pleasing dishes for guests on board as part of the Lufthansa Star Chefs programme.


Lufthansa is continuing to extend its route network to growth markets in Africa. On 1 April 2008, following the introduction of the summer timetable, a new service will be launched between Frankfurt and the Angolan capital, Luanda. The non-stop route will be operated once a week by an Airbus 340-300 with 221 seats.


Lufthansa is expanding its route network from three to five destinations in China in the year of the Olympic summer games in Peking. Starting summer 2008 it will then be laying on the first flights by a European airline to route newcomers Nanjing from Frankfurt and Shenyang from Munich alongside its existing services to Peking, Shanghai and Guangzhou (Canton).


Two years after the introduction of the Lufthansa Private Jet (LPJ), demand for individual, flexible air travel is so strong that Lufthansa is expanding its premium service. The company is investing in its own private jets to augment the existing Lufthansa Private Jet service.


With only 186 days to go until the kick-off of the 2008 European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland, Lufthansa has good news for all soccer fans. It will be the only European airline to fly to all the EURO 2008 venues. A total of 31 European Cup games will be played in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Basle, Zurich, Berne and Geneva between 7 and 29 June 2008.


Lufthansa is offering an enhanced mode of transacting cashless purchases to holders of a German Lufthansa Miles & More credit card. In cooperation with the BayernLB bank and its wholly-owned Deutsche Kreditbank AG subsidiary, Miles & More and MasterCard are issuing a new generation Lufthansa Miles & More Credit Card to all existing German card holders from January 2008.


Lufthansa has underscored its commitment to football by penning a renewed deal as official partner of the German Football Federation (DFB). At a joint press conference in Frankfurt today, the airline and DFB announced that they are extending their cooperation agreement for a further three-year term.


Lufthansa will remain the "Official Carrier" for Germany’s record league champions Bayern Munich for the next three years. The two sides announced that they were extending their partnership today.


With the crude oil price peaking to new heights in recent weeks, Lufthansa is reacting to the concomitant increase in the price for kerosene by raising the fuel surcharge on long-haul flights by ten euros.


In the next few days, Lufthansa will take delivery of the first of 60 new Airbus A320 family aircraft. The new jets will bring considerable improvements in terms of customer comfort.


From next summer, Lufthansa is expanding its long-haul network. In April 2008, Germany’s largest carrier will launch a new route to Seattle and recommence services to Calgary from Frankfurt. Flights from Munich to Singapore will also be resumed.


A new service from Bristol to the German city of Frankfurt will offer a quick and easy connection into Lufthansa’s ‘Gateway to the World’ for both business and leisure travellers in the South West.


With the start of the winter timetable, Lufthansa has launched a new flight that will land at Newark, only ten kilometres from the Big Apple, at 11.20 hrs local time. Until 31 March 2008, passengers travelling on this flight can also book a free helicopter or limousine service from the airport to Manhattan.


To mark the 50th anniversary of its first flight to Denmark, Lufthansa has important news for its Scandinavian neighbour. From the end of March 2008, western Denmark will be linked to the airline’s worldwide route network with a service that will be operated for the first time by Lufthansa itself. Flights will connect Billund Airport in Central Jutland to Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub three times a day.


More good news for fans of the British Isles who get even more possibilities to cross the Channel. Next year, Lufthansa is launching a thrice-daily service to Bristol in South West England from Frankfurt, its major hub. "Bristol and its environs are one of the most important economic regions in the UK," says Dr. Karl-Rudolf Rupprecht, Head of Hub Management at Frankfurt.


Travel professionals from around the world have voted Lufthansa “Europe's Leading Business Class Airline” in the 2007 World Travel Awards. Hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the "Travel industry's equivalent to the Oscars", the World Travel Awards are the most comprehensive and most prestigious awards programme in the global travel industry today.


Lufthansa is offering one million seats for as little as £39 one-way for travel within Europe. Available all year round, the special fares will enable UK travellers to fly with Lufthansa at an affordable price to up 93 destinations across Europe. These include a wide selection of popular European holiday and city break destinations in Germany, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Italy, Spain and Poland.

Lufthansa From 17 September, Lufthansa passengers will have a further opportunity to play an active role in tackling climate change. Via the independent partner organisation myclimate, ecologically aware air travellers can invest specifically in climate protection projects. Passengers can make donations via a direct link on the website Lufthansa.com.


Lufthansa The German capital Berlin is the latest destination in Lufthansa’s growing network from London City Airport. From 14th January, 2008, Lufthansa will operate twice daily non-stop flights to Berlin-Tegel (thrice daily from the start of the summer timetable), offering the fastest connection between the two city centres and increasing the total number of weekly Lufthansa flights out of the Docklands airport from 66 to 78 weekly.


Lufthansa Lufthansa’s UK and Ireland passengers will again be able to connect with flights to Pakistan from the start of the winter timetable. Starting on 28 October 2007, the Lufthansa all year round connection comes on stream, with a three times a week connection (Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday) from Frankfurt to Karachi and, for the first time, also to Lahore.


Lufthansa’s passengers in the UK will have a choice of three destinations in Romania from 1 September 2007, with the start of a new service to Sibiu. The German flag carrier will serve the Romanian city five times a week (increasing to a daily service from 28th October) with quick and easy connections through its Munich hub.


The latest ‘Lufthansa Long Weekend’ will coincide with the launch of the Summer timetable, offering even more connections to some of the most popular onward destinations for the airline’s UK passengers. The special ‘Long weekend’ fares will be on sale from just after midnight on the morning of Friday 16th until midnight on Tuesday 20th March on many of the 13,700 flights a week scheduled for the 2007 summer timetable (compared with 13,140 in summer 2006).


Lufthansa has set a new airline record for passengers carried to and from the UK & Ireland. The figure of 3,608,155 during 2006 shows an increase of almost 240,000 on the figures for 2005.
