1st April 2007 Print
Cointreau Star The 60th Cannes Film Festival will celebrate with its own limited edition cocktail this year – the Cointreaupolitan Star. It will also be available in select bars in the UK during May, and served at the glamorous charity Blush Ball presented by Breast Cancer Haven in London 3 May.

Cointreau has given a flamboyant flourish to its signature Cointreaupolitan cocktail for the Cannes Film Festival. Its stunning lipstick pink colour is embellished with sparkling gold to create the real diva of all cocktails.

The Cointreaupolitan Star martini cocktail:

Mix in a shaker with ice:
50 ml Cointreau
30 ml Cranberry Juice
20 ml Lemon Juice
Shake all ingredients together with ice.
Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Garnish with a decadent float of 24 carat culinary gold flakes.

With Diane Kruger as Master of Ceremonies opening and closing the two-week Festival, and Stephen Frears (fresh from his success with The Queen) as President of the Jury, the Festival will include a season of glamorous parties, at which the Cointreaupolitan martini will be served.

The Festival de Cannes is considered the world’s most prestigious and influential film festival. As a hub for world renowned cinema creators and actors, its star-studded glamour is synonymous with some of the world’s most charismatic women walking the red carpet to the Palais des Festivals: from Monica Bellucci, to Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz and Uma Thurman.

Cointreau - This stylish orange French liqueur (40 percent alcohol by volume) is made with the fragrant peels of the very finest sweet and bitter oranges. It has a deliciously intense aroma and flavour, and is much more than a traditional liqueur. Enjoy it on ice to experience its fresh, cool aromas. For an alternative, refreshing long drink, mix a Cointreau Tonic with tonic water, lime and ice, or indulge in a delicious Long Cointreaupolitan by dousing Cointreau over ice with a liberal splash of chilled cranberry juice.

It is also the key ingredient in numerous classic cocktails, such as the Cosmopolitan (with citron vodka, lime and a splash of cranberry juice), Golden Dream (with Galliano liqueur), Original Margarita (with tequila), White Lady (with gin) and Sidecar (with cognac). As a gourmet ingredient, it luxuriously partners fresh fruit flavours through to chocolate.

Around £17.49 for 70cl bottle, widely available.
