FirstBuy helps family secure property in Hailsham

Taylor Wimpey aims to make it easy for first-time buyers to step on the property ladder – as Trevor Coy and Claire Griggs discovered at The Grange, the leading housebuilder’s popular development of new homes for sale in Hailsham, East Sussex.

Having a two-year-old daughter gave East Sussex property-seekers Trevor Coy and Claire Griggs good reason to seek the security offered by owning their own home, but the need for a hefty deposit left them without the financial means to achieve their ambition.

That was until the young couple heard about the fantastic FirstBuy scheme, which let them access their first home for just 80% of its full price – including a 5% deposit – at Taylor Wimpey’s The Grange development of property for sale in Hailsham.

“We had been living in rented accommodation for several years and buying our own house was always part of the plan, but we knew it depended on finding the right time,” says Trevor (30), a cavity wall insulation installer, reflecting on the search for new houses for sale in Hailsham.

“As soon as we heard about FirstBuy in Hailsham at Taylor Wimpey’s The Grange development, we realised this was our opportunity and that we could afford our very own home.

“We went along to the Taylor Wimpey Hailsham development and the Sales Executives talked us through the whole process. They told us what we needed to know and we have been really happy with the way the initiative has worked for us.

“It has allowed us to take that important first step on the property ladder without having to struggle for years saving up a big deposit, and given us the security of being homeowners.”

The young family moved into their brand new three-bedroom house at The Grange last November.

“The property we’ve bought is spread across three storeys and we really like the layout because we’ve got an en-suite bedroom tucked away on the top floor, and there’s plenty of space in each of the rooms,” adds Claire (28).

“Even after we moved in, we continued to receive great customer service, with the Site Manager always available when we needed him, which we really appreciate.

“We love living at The Grange, our house is great and the development is close to everything we need in Hailsham.”

The FirstBuy initiative works through a joint loan of 20% from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Taylor Wimpey, which means that eligible purchasers only need put down a 5% deposit and obtain a 75% loan-to-value mortgage, subject to status.

The loan is repayable at the end of the 25-year mortgage term or when the property is sold. To be eligible, purchasers must be first-time buyers and their total household earnings should be less than £60,000.

A limited selection of homes is on sale with FirstBuy at The Grange, including the two-bedroom ‘Daffodil’ detached house, priced £199,995, which is available for an 80% FirstBuy price of just £159,996 – including a 5% deposit of only £10,000.

This impressive house features a light and airy kitchen/dining room, plus a spacious lounge opening through French doors to the private rear garden and a guest cloakroom on the ground floor.

Upstairs, the landing leads to the en-suite master bedroom, one further well-proportioned bedroom, a study and a family bathroom, while outside the property benefits from allocated parking.

Alternatively, three-bedroom homes are on sale at The Grange from only £229,995, while four-bedroom properties are priced from just £259,995.

Situated within 76 acres of farmland on the western edge of Hailsham, and just over a mile from the shops and amenities of the historic town centre, The Grange borders the beautiful Sussex countryside.

For walkers and ramblers there is a wealth of woodland and riverside walks to explore, while safe cycling is permitted along the Cuckoo Trail, the former route of the dismantled branch railway line.
