Current account customers switch to N&P
Norwich & Peterborough Building Society (N&P) is seeing rising numbers of customers switch from the big high street banks to its award-winning Gold Classic Current Account.
The number of applications for N&P's Gold Current Accounts has doubled in the past week, both online and in branches.
"A high proportion of the Society's new current account customers have switched from Barclays and NatWest and we believe this is clearly in reaction to the recent financial scandals and criticism of the big banks," said Ewan Edwards, head of current accounts at N&P.
"As part of the Yorkshire Building Society Group, we are proud of our mutual values which we believe make us a credible and secure alternative to the high street banks.
"In addition to long-term value and financial security, great customer service is one of our key aims and we know our customers appreciate this - 87% of new Gold Current Account customers graded their introduction to N&P as excellent and 85% scored our internet banking service equally as highly."
The Gold Classic Current Account, which is available online and in N&P branches, provides customers with free overseas debit card transactions as standard, which could save them almost £12 in the cost of each withdrawal of £250 worth of local currency in an overseas ATMs compared to other providers.

Free Sentinel Gold protection for cards and keys worth £32 per year
A simple, transparent fee structure
A free £250 overdraft for 6 months (subject to status)
