Local housebuilder Morris Homes has helped a surgeon and his family escape the rising rental market and purchase their first home at its popular Burton-upon-Trent development.

Zafar Khan, 52, a surgeon at the nearby Queen’s Hospital, and his wife Humaira, 43, were renting a property near the hospital and were looking for a permanent home close to the town centre as the average UK rent reached £709 per month.

The family visited Morris’ popular Paget Green development on Horninglow Road and immediately fell in love with a stunning three-bed Rufford property, just minutes from Zafar’s workplace.

Ideally located within walking distance of a vast array of local shops and amenities, it quickly became clear that the family, whose youngest child also lives with them, had found their dream first home.

The couple, who decorated their new house using a furniture, curtains and lights package from Morris’ exclusive range, moved in to the property just two months after reserving the plot.

Mrs Khan said: “We were ready to leave the rental market and move into home ownership and it was important to us that we found a high-quality house that was near the hospital. As soon as we drove onto the Paget Green site we knew we had found the perfect solution.

“Our new Rufford home is beautifully designed, has its own parking facilities and comes with a 10-year NHBC warranty, all of which were really important factors for us when choosing a property.

“We had been renting for many years and were looking for a cost-effective choice, and from the start of the process Jo and the team at Morris couldn’t have been more helpful. It’s great to finally be settled in our fantastic new home in what is a professional, friendly community at Paget Green.”

Jo Janiec, sales advisor for Morris, said: “Mr and Mrs Khan knew exactly what they were looking for, and it was a pleasure to offer them a home that ticked all their boxes. Escaping rising rental prices is a cost-effective move, and Paget Green is a popular choice for first-time buyers.”

Help is available for first-time buyers looking to purchase a property at Paget Green with the Government-led FirstBuy scheme. The helpful initiative allows a househunter to buy a property for 80 per cent of its market value, removing the need for large deposits and lowering mortgage repayments.

Jo added: “Many buyers looking to take their first step onto the property ladder just don’t have the deposit required, but FirstBuy removes this obstacle and helps first-timers move into home ownership.

“Paget Green is ideal for professionals because of its easy access to the motorway network for commuting into Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham and Derby, and with a stamp duty tax break available on all homes under £150,000 at the site it is unsurprising the development attracts such high levels of interest.”

Morris has a selection of two and three-bed properties available at Paget Green starting at £99,950 under the FirstBuy scheme and costing from £124,750 without using the Government initiative.
