Say Happy Birthday the old fashioned way
With today’s reliance by most of the world’s population on emailing and texting, it’s a sad fact that people don’t send as many birthday cards through the post as they used to.
That doesn’t mean to say that your birthday isn’t acknowledged though! You hear from everyone you know on your birthday – but generally, it’s with a quick text or Facebook message. Sometimes you get Happy Birthday messages from people who would never have sent you a card, but they see other people sending you Facebook birthday greetings and they just jot you a line or two. Somehow, it doesn’t seem to mean very much!
There’s something different about the magic of receiving real birthday cards in the post. And really, with all the different ways you can get a card to people by post via the internet these days, there’s no real reason not to make the effort. After all, the effort is even less than it used to be where you physically had to go to a shop, buy a card, write it, stick a stamp on the envelope and get it posted at least two days ahead of the upcoming birthday.
Now, you can get an email reminder about someone’s birthday the next day, create a fantastic personalised card online within minutes and send it to them to arrive on time through their letterbox without even getting up from your desk!
Just think how much more meaningful it feels to have that card arrive through the post rather than a quick ‘Cheers’ on the email or Facebook. Many of the sites that sell e-cards that you can get printed and posted out on your behalf will also send you reminders for any birthdays that you log on your account, so the job’s made even easier. You can also look back at previous cards you’ve sent and edit them for someone else, cutting down the time you need to send one out even further.
It’s actually surprising that the number of cards people receive on their birthdays hasn’t gone up, seeing as it’s much easier to organise than it used to be!
