No sleep and more stress for parents as uni kids come home to roost

28th December 2012 Print

Parents up and down the country this festive break will feel their stress levels increase as they open their doors to their university kids once again.

Over a quarter of parents surveyed by Future Drive Motor Show admitted that waiting for their children to return home in their cars late at night was the most stressful issue of being a parent.

This compares to 3.8% saying that sending their children to university was the most stressful issue in being a parent and 18.3% cited waiting for exam results.

Giles Brown, Future Drive Motor Show managing director said: “Once a parent, always a parent; this festive season there will be numerous houses with parents lying awake in their beds waiting for the bleep of the car door and the slamming of the front door signalling the safe return of their loved ones before they allow themselves to drop off.

“The joy of being a parent is never ending and in general most parents will feel the return to the torture of sleepness nights is a small price to pay to have their family all under one roof during the holidays.”
