Those who dream of leaving the hustle and bustle of city living behind in favour of a quieter life close to the country could find their ideal home with a visit to Holtby Gardens.

According to research by NFU Mutual, one in 10 people in urban areas dislike where they live, more than three times the level in rural communities. In contrast, a massive 88% of people in Yorkshire ‘loved’ or ‘liked’ living in rural areas.

For anyone who’s thinking of escaping the town or city to somewhere with a more rural outlook, Redrow’s Holtby Gardens development in Cottingham is the natural choice.

Set on the edge of the village, the homes enjoy a semi-rural location close to the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. A wealth of amenities in the village are just a short journey away; while the cities of Hull and York, plus the historic market town of Beverley, are all within easy reach.

Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), commented: “The advantages of living in a rural setting over an urban area are well documented – the crime levels are generally lower, schools tend to perform better and people are likely to live longer. Unsurprisingly, people often aspire to move away from towns and cities to somewhere quieter, particularly those who want to raise a family in a safe environment with a strong sense of community. Opportunities to buy homes in rural areas are often few and far between, so Holtby Gardens is ideal as it offers the perfect balance between town and country.”

Teachers Scott and Natalie Wilson were living in Hull but wanted somewhere larger where they could raise a family. Their search for the ideal family home bought them to Holtby Gardens, where they now live in a four-bedroom Stratford.

Location played a key part in their decision, as Scott explains.

“We didn’t realise how accessible Cottingham is. It’s close to Hull city centre and enjoys easy access to the A63. It’s a picturesque area with a semi-rural atmosphere that really appealed to us, yet with lots of amenities in the busy village centre,” he said.

“We like to dine out and there are lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from.”

Holtby Gardens offers everything from two-bedroom starter homes, to substantial four-bedroom detached family homes, with current prices from £144,950.

They all boast high specification interiors. Kitchens are well equipped with integrated top brand name appliances such as oven, hob, microwave and fridge freezer; while bathrooms and en-suites enjoy quality fixtures and fittings with a tile range exclusive to Redrow.

A range of incentives are available to help people move to Holtby Gardens. These include FirstBuy, which offers buyers the chance to reduce the initial cost of setting up home with an equity loan; 95% mortgages through the NewBuy initiative and part exchange, which enables home owners to trade in their current property towards the cost of a new one.
