Developer urges home owners to show support for our planet

22nd March 2013 Print

On Saturday March 23 2013, Miller Homes’ developments throughout the North East will be joining the worldwide 'Earth Hour' campaign and switching off as much power as possible for one hour, pledging support to the planet.

Organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and supported by over 152 countries, the campaign is designed to raise awareness on climate change and encourage people to think about their own energy consumptions. Since its inception in 2007 some countries have reported as much as a 13 percent reduction in energy usage during the hour.

Steve McElroy, sales director at Miller Homes North East, said: "We are encouraging our homeowners at developments across the region to turn off their appliances and non-essential lighting for just one hour to support this global initiative.

"The 'I will if you will’ (IWIYW) campaign is really gathering momentum with over 7,000 towns and cities already involved. By taking part not only can you make a worthy contribution to reducing your own and your family’s carbon emissions but also demonstrate your support for the initiative and its aim to raise awareness of climate change issues.

"Why not take the hour as an opportunity for a candle lit meal, playing a favourite family board game or perhaps enjoying a walk around your neighbourhood and spend some quality time with family and friends in your home?

“Just one hour without the power we rely so heavily upon nowadays will perhaps remind us of how fortunate we are to have this convenience available at the flick of a switch as well as contributing towards the welfare of the planet."

Earth Hour will take place at 8.30pm on Saturday March 23 2013. Visit earthhour.org for further details and to see how you, your family and your place of work can get involved.
