Subaru’s first family fan club

Subaru Could father and son, Steve and Ian Brown, be Subaru’s first family fan club?

Sussex-based dealer, Culverwells thinks so, and with them both taking delivery of a Subaru Impreza WRX STI 330-S, their passion for the latest special-edition, new-shape Subaru Impreza STI is plain to see.

Introduced to the brand by his Subaru-enthusiast son (43) who had previously owned several WRXs and a WR1, Insurance Claims Adjuster, Steve (69) decided to give the Impreza 2.5 WRX STI 330S a chance after it was announced at the British Motor Show in July.

An irrepressible Impreza fan, son Ian said: “I have always been impressed by their reliability, bullet-proof build quality and unfettered raw power, and made it my mission to convert my father, although on this occasion he was three months ahead of me!

“The service my father received at Culverwells was impeccable, and when combined with the lure of the all-new Impreza 330S, I just couldn’t resist making a purchase myself!”

Benefiting from a Prodrive Performance pack with modified ECU and exhaust system, power goes up on the Impreza WRX STI 330S to a staggering 330 PS at only 5,400 rpm compared to the 300.5 PS at 6,000 rpm of the standard model. Top speed is the same 155.3 mph but the 0-60 mph time drops from an already swift 4.8 seconds to only 4.4 seconds.

Upgrades include leather-covered Recaro front seats, satellite navigation, Smart-entry, push-button start and new special-edition sports new five-spoke 18x8.5 ins alloy wheels wearing 245/40 R18 tyres.

Dealer Principal, Richard Cole, said: “Both Steve and Ian are real performance-car enthusiasts and extremely knowledgeable, and therefore difficult to please. But with all the extra kit available as standard, the Impreza WRX STI 330S came as a natural choice.”
