Verde customers still have mutual options
Lloyds TSB customers who were expecting to see their current accounts transferred to the Co-Op have been reminded they can still opt for a mutual alternative to the big banks.
Norwich & Peterborough Building Society (N&P) is one of only a handful of mutuals that offers a current account, which it launched in 1987.
The fee-free accounts can be managed fully online and N&P provides a dedicated switching service to support customers change their accounts.
N&P Gold Classic current account customers receive a range of other benefits at no cost, including free Visa debit card use abroad, access to exclusive savings products with preferential rates, Sentinel Gold cover and discounted share dealing costs, as long as at least £500 is paid in to the account every month. New customers also benefit from a six-month interest free £250 overdraft limit.
N&P's Gold Light current account is available for customers who are not able to pay in £500 every month but still want free debit card use abroad, on condition of at least five transactions being made each month.
Ewan Edwards, N&P's head of current accounts, said: "Those Lloyds customers who were looking forward to becoming part of a mutual should remember there are credible and viable alternatives to the big banks.
"People want to do their banking with someone they can trust and our customer satisfaction rates of 88% highlight how well N&P looks after its members.
"During 2012, which was a remarkably turbulent year for the banks, we saw a 24% increase in the number of current account customers switching to us and we expect that trend to continue."
