UK's fastest Subarus challenge Prodrive's World Rally Car

22nd May 2009 Print
Prodrive World Rally Car Once again, Prodrive will roll their phenomenal WRC2008 Impreza World Rally Car off the transporter in support of Scooby Sprint Championship, Round 2, at Elvington airfield in York this Sunday.

Round 1 saw the UK's best tuners, and most enthusiastic amateurs pitting their Scoobies, from standard road cars to the extreme machines of Tracktive, ScoobyClinic and AFP Subaru, for the first time ever, against Prodrive's World Rally Car driven by their WRC test driver ace Terry Kaby. As many predicted, it was far from a foregone conclusion, with Tracktive coming in a very close second, and followed even closer behind by AFP Subaru.

John Felstead also proved how fast the standard road cars are, winning the Standard Class trophy, and coming an incredible 6th overall in his Impreza STI road car.

Kevin Horsley was the fastest privateer entry in his ScoobyClinic-prepared Type R in 4th place, and less than 3 seconds behind Prodrive.

Can Prodrive hold on to their championship lead? Round 2 uses the "New Zealand" (Fast and Flowing) track layout, which will swing favour towards the high power outputs of some of the fire breathing Impreza monsters run by the Tuners and some of the private entries. Prodrive's WRC regulation turbo restrictor will be a definite disadvantage, but any of the 1,000 Subaru fans who arrived in droves to watch Round 1, and witnessed the WRC car off the start line and out of the bends, won't be writing off the Banbury based motorsport powerhouse just yet! Especially as the entire top 10 was separated by only 5 seconds on Round 1.

If you want to compete, there's still time. Enter your Subaru for only £97 championship registration fee, and £50 per event, making it some of the cheapest motorsport you'll find - visit ScoobySprint.com/competitors/registration

Or if you just want to go and meet the gang, and soak up the action, it’s £10 per person, and kids under 15 get in free, so take the family! Gates open at 9am this Sunday at Elvington airfield in York, and the action goes on all day. If you go in your Scooby, we recommend getting their early to secure your parking space in the main area right next to the action, and a few hundred cars like yours!
