Abisko Northern Lights Photo Tour

8th May 2013 Print

Arctic Direct, a leading provider of specially-tailored holidays to the Arctic, has launched a new photo tour in Abisko, which offers the chance to see the Northern Lights whilst receiving professional photography instruction.

The Abisko Photo Tour package offers holidaymakers four nights in Abisko, Sweden, with in-depth theoretical instruction and feedback on photographing the auroras from Chad Blakely, a world-renowned Northern Lights photographer; lessons are also available as a single-evening tour alongside Arctic Direct's separate Abisko tour, or their Mattarahka and Kiruna packages. The tour package also includes: flights from Heathrow or Manchester via Stockholm, with transfers; private rooms with private bathrooms; access to an authentic Scandinavian sauna; gourmet three-course dinners with local delicacies, as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals; visits to Abisko Sky Station (with evening meal) and dog sledging in Abisko National Park.

Arctic Direct's Abisko Photo Tour is available between October and March, with ten places per package. Warm clothing, boots and camera equipment is all available for rent, and it is recommended that anyone taking part in the tour has an SLR with a fastwide lens (ideally 18mm/F2.8), wireless remote and a tripod, though these can be rented locally for the duration.

"This package offers a truly amazing experience: the Northern Lights, beautiful surroundings, delicious food, fantastic activities and expert instruction on capturing the stunning auroras in your own photographs," said Charlotte Marshall-Reynolds, of Arctic Direct. "While we obviously can't guarantee that the auroras will be visible at any given time, early feedback from these tours has given a 100% viewing rate!"
