Active life for the not so retiring at Halton Court

A recent survey by Skipton Building Society has shown that the traditional pipe and slippers lifestyle is not for today’s retirees, who are more likely to be hiking and swimming than taking it easy.

The study reveals that people are seeing their retirement as a new phase in their life and are planning to stay as fit and active as possible in order to remain healthy. Whether it’s travelling, a renewed interest in hobbies enjoyed when they were younger or embarking on a new exercise such as cycling, people are keen to make the most of their retirement.

Viridian’s Halton Court development in SE3 is the perfect place for homeowners to downsize and enjoy an active lifestyle. Comprising 20 contemporary two bedroom shared ownership apartments for the over 55’s, Halton Court is situated within Kidbrooke Village.

Halton Court has everything the energetic retiree could wish for. The entire village stretches over 55 hectares of open green space, with numerous footpaths providing opportunities for walking or jogging. For the more sports minded there is an athletics track, tennis courts and basketball courts, some of which will be available in the later stages of the development. At the nearby David Lloyd Health and Fitness Centre, there is a gym, pool and spa facilities.

Felicity Gentle, Development Sales and Marketing Manager of Viridian Housing comments: “Halton Court offers the perfect lifestyle for the active over 55’s. By buying a share of a brand new apartment, residents can release equity to fund and actively enjoy their leisure time by taking part in sport, travel and exciting new hobbies, rather than spending their time maintaining their existing family home.”

All apartments at Halton Court have been designed to maximise the use of the interior space and are finished to a high quality, contemporary style specification. Each property has generous private outside space in the shape of a large, decked balcony or terrace, with some featuring two.

In addition to the outdoor activities on offer, Halton Court boasts a range of leisure facilities including a 24- hour concierge, waiter serviced restaurant and bar, hair salon, nail bar and spa bath. Residents can get online easily in the internet café and take advantage of WIFI which is available in some communal areas. A large shared garden on the first floor and a roof garden enables residents to relax and enjoy fine weather. A village hall provides a venue for events and seating areas around the development offer plenty of opportunities to meet up with friends.

The landscaped Cator Park borders Halton Court and forms a ‘green river’ through Kidbrooke Village to other parks in the area. It includes fountains and two weirs and nature enthusiasts will be able to spot the local wildlife that has already started to settle there.

Halton Court is located under a mile from Blackheath where the wide variety of shops, markets, restaurants, bars and cafes offer everything the active retiree could wish for. Yet with Kidbrooke station just a short walk away, the development couldn’t be handier for fast access to the City and beyond. Local buses run frequently, providing services across south east London.

In addition to Halton Court, Viridian are working on two other age exclusive developments, one in Cheam Village, Surrey and another in Royal Arsenal, Greenwich.

Prices for a two bedroom apartment at Halton Court start from £162,500 based on a 50% of a property with a full market value of £325,000. For further information, visit viridianhousing.org.uk.
