William is already king in royal baby’s eyes

As Prince William prepares to become a first time dad later this week, a new survey shows that even if he develops the inevitable dodgy dad dancing and bad jokes he will still be the new royal arrival’s ultimate hero.

Showing that dad is king, the study revealed that of today’s generation of kids over 70 per cent say their dad is their biggest hero – with only 8% looking up to a celebrity role model such as One Direction, Justin Bieber, and Jessie J.

Yesterday’s poll of 1,000 7-12 year olds, commissioned by Wacky Warehouse and Fayre & Square, also proved that the recent successes of Britain’s sporting stars has inspired this generation, with 11% aspiring to be like sporting heroes, Andy Murray, Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis, and Tom Daly.

The study comes as Wacky Warehouse and Fayre & Square called upon celebrity mum, Michelle Heaton to launch a new campaign to find the UK’s Little Heroes.

Michelle said: “It has been really interesting to see children’s attitudes towards role models and what they believe makes a hero. It has long been assumed kids want to be like their favourite celebrities, so to see that they actually look up to their dad instead is a heartening reflection on the attitudes of British children.

“Of all the kids we spoke to, 39% believe that being a hero means being kind, strong (32%) and confident (20%) and these are the attributes that we want to celebrate in Wacky Warehouse and Fayre & Square’s search for the UK’s Little Heroes.”

So far nominations have come in from across the UK, including a little boy who has raised more than £2,000 for a charity close to his heart and a little girl who dedicates her life outside of school to looking after her disabled mother.

Teaming up with Fayre & Square and Wacky Warehouse, Michelle has unveiled the ‘Little Heroes’ campaign to search for little people who deserve big praise as well as a £1,000 prize.

Mums, dads, grandparents and child-minders are encouraged to nominate children who’ve done something extraordinary, from displaying remarkable courage to going above and beyond to raise money for charity.

To make your nomination, visit the Fayre & Square website: fayre-square.co.uk, or visit the Facebook page for Wacky Warehouse or Fayre & Square.

The closing date for entries is Friday 2 August.
