While times remain tight for a large majority of British families and many have had to make financial sacrifices, going on a summer holiday is not something they are willing to give up, according to recent insight from Asda Money.

Research has shown that a fifth of UK parents (20%) admit that although money is tight they are taking their family on that well-deserved break even if things are more of a stretch this year. Furthermore, when it comes to making the most of their money, a third (32%) of parents have been searching for a cheaper holiday and have scrimped and saved to afford it. However, when on holiday parents are willing to push the boat out a bit more with insight showing a third of UK parents (33%) plan to take away over £500 or more spending money on their holiday.

The destination of choice for breaks abroad is Spain which came top for value for money (23%). Greece came in at second place, with one in ten (9%) parents citing it as their top destination. For those families who want to catch the tail end of the summer sun Asda Money has it covered. It is launching its next online travel money rate sale starting on the 27th August at 8am, ending at 8am 30th August and will cover Asda’s top three currencies. The top three currencies on offer are:

Euro
US Dollar
Turkish Lira

Kirsty Ward, head of Asda Money says:  “For those who want to jet off on an impromptu getaway and hold onto that summer feeling, we want to make things as easy as possible for cash strapped families. We know it’s essential for our customers to manage their holiday budgets and to find the best possible deals.  Our recent insight showed that just under half (42%) will take the time to shop around in order to buy their travel money from a retailer who provides the best rates. However, while it pays to shop around and plan ahead in order to cut costs and stress, sometimes, for busy parents, this just isn’t possible. This is exactly why we offer reduced rates on our travel money1 throughout the year. Customers can order their travel money from the comfort of their sofa and have it delivered, or they can collect it from their local Asda Money bureau when doing their weekly shop. Even for those who haven’t managed to plan that far ahead, we even have bureaux located near airports such as Crawley near Gatwick so they can buy their holiday money along with their other last minute essentials such as sun cream, without having to pay pumped up prices.”

Customers can order online or on the phone and pick it up from their local Travel Money bureau seven days a week. Or, if they order over £500 Asda will deliver their holiday money free to their door. Order between £50 and £500 and Asda will deliver for just £3.95, and you won’t pay a penny in fees if you use the Asda Money Credit Card to make the purchase. Finally, to top this off they are also offering all customers who buy travel money a 25% online discount on their travel insurance, see asda.com/travel25.
