Halifax customers get ‘Cashback Extras’

28th August 2013 Print

Halifax has taken a further step in challenging the current account market by launching a new cashback programme on its leading range of accounts.

With a fifth of people admitting that they now always try to get a better deal on their shopping Halifax is giving its customers another way to make their money go further. ‘Cashback Extras' will allow Halifax current account holders, using both debit and credit cards, to select cashback offers on their everyday spending.

Designed to reward customers based on their existing shopping habits and trends, those signed up to Cashback Extras will benefit from cashback of between 5-15% on purchases from retailers including Morrisons, Argos and Homebase.

By providing tailored and relevant offers, Halifax anticipates that customers using the programme will be able to earn over £100 in cashback over a year, simply by buying the things they already spend money on.

Available to all new and existing current account customers, the £5 monthly reward on Halifax Reward Account will still be available, depending on eligibility, and customers switching their main current account to Halifax before the end of the year will receive £100. This means that some current account customers using Cashback Extras could therefore receive over £250 in rewards over the next 12 months.

How Cashback Extras works

By late September, all Halifax customers within the programme who log onto their online or mobile banking will see Cashback Extras offers and be able to benefit in three easy steps:

1. Click on the cashback offers

2. Shop at the retailer with a Halifax debit or credit card

3. Cashback paid directly into a chosen Halifax current account at the end of the following month.

The programme is available through existing Halifax online and mobile banking sites, meaning customers do not need to sign up to separate websites, nor do they need to access any codes or vouchers to access the offers. All earned cashback is paid as a cash amount, rather than points, and there is no minimum amount on cashback paid.

Anthony Warrington, director of Halifax Current Accounts, said: "Everybody's trying to make their money go further, which is why so many people already use voucher sites, discount codes and loyalty cards.

"We're launching Cashback Extras to make this process easier and more rewarding for Halifax customers. They'll be able to earn up to 15% cashback from big household names, without the hassle of vouchers, codes, points or visiting different websites".

"With tailored offers, people will be rewarded for the type of shopping they already do, and in addition to our popular £5 monthly payment on the Reward account; the pounds will really start to add up over a year."

Halifax is already partnering with number of high street names to provide cashback offers through the initiative and, depending on which offers are determined as being relevant, customers who use Cashback Extras could start to see offers from Morrisons, Ocado, Argos, and Homebase.
