The Squares at Greenwich Millennium Village

Award-winning Greenwich Millennium Village has launched for sale The Squares, a collection of apartments in continental-style low-rise pavilions near to the yacht club and the River Thames. The first launch comprises a total of 25 apartments in two buildings, 108 and 109, in Peartree Way, offering a stylish way to enjoy village life in the city. The launch of The Squares comes as the riverside homes in the first new phase become almost fully sold.

With green biodiversity roofs the two buildings are visibly sustainable while offering contemporary apartment living on a more homely scale. Just four storeys high, they offer a range of apartments with 14 one and two bedroom homes in one and 11 one two and three bedroom apartments in the other.

Greenwich Millennium Village has a well-deserved reputation for community spirit and The Squares are designed to enhance this. Roomy corner balconies with double aspects allow residents to feel part of street life in a way that is reminiscent of continental towns in brighter climes. On the other side of the buildings prominent bay windows provide extra space and character for bedrooms. The landscaped courtyards and streets around the buildings continue the cohesive feel of Greenwich Millennium Village; the village within the city.

Greenwich Millennium Village already has a thriving market for sale and rental with owners and tenants alike appreciating the excellent design of the homes and the good transport connections. It has a long history of successful sales and has proved a consistent investment over an economic cycle. Already the first new phase of development is over 90 per cent sold with the first homes being ready for occupation from Summer 2014.

Known as ‘London’s favourite village’, Greenwich Millennium Village is located on the Greenwich Peninsula adjacent to the Greenwich Yacht Club. Apartments offer a maritime lifestyle yet are just a few minutes walk from North Greenwich Underground station, offering access to Canary Wharf in two minutes, just one stop away on the Jubilee line. The O2, with its restaurants and cafes, is within easy walking distance, as is the Thames Clipper and new cable car, so it is easy to see why Greenwich Millennium Village is already a thriving community and has long been one of the fastest selling property developments in the eastern half of London.

The apartments have been designed by leading architects Jestico and Whiles. Set around landscaped courtyards, with balconies and full height glazing, the contemporary design of the apartments complements the earlier phases designed by the late Ralph Erskine, which originally established Greenwich Millennium Village as one of the most significant examples of innovative modern architecture. The development has proved very popular since the original launch with many home owners moving once or even twice within the development as their family needs change. The Village is structured to achieve a close-knit sense of community with homes placed around garden squares, streets and public amenity space with interlinking tree-lined streets between each neighbourhood.

Greenwich Millennium Village’s neighbour, the Greenwich Yacht Club, was established in 1908 and offers superb facilities including excellent river access, a club bar with river views, deep water moorings, a large yard and workshops. Greenwich Yacht Club currently has over 400 members and is a social and educational hub, as well as the perfect place for boating enthusiasts.

Greenwich Millennium Village is a beautiful and practical place to live which has developed into a vibrant and active community. Sustainable development is as much about establishing an inclusive society as it is about brilliant design and innovative architecture. The Village already benefits from a wide range of amenities including excellent transport links, a school, a health centre, shops, leisure facilities and green open spaces. A new childrens’ nursery is opening in November. It is within walking distance of an award-winning ‘eco-Sainsbury’s’, a retail park and IMAX cinema.

The whole area is designed with an emphasis on walking, cycling and the use of public transport over the car, thus contributing towards a safe, calm and healthy environment for the benefit of all.

On the Greenwich Peninsula 50 acres of land have been developed as parkland, restoring a sense of ecological balance to what was once an industrial site. The Greater London Agency, working with the Environment Agency, has really put the ‘green’ into Greenwich. The Village’s central focus is an Ecology Park with two lakes and thriving wildlife population. Next door is Southern Park, a tree-edged public amenity space for dog walking, playing or just relaxing. Nature is being given a helping hand, with enough turf being laid on the Peninsula to cover 20 football pitches. Thousands of trees and shrubs have been planted and areas of meadow grass are maintained using mowing patterns that help promote wildlife.

A walk to North Greenwich station takes you through the Peninsula’s Central Park. Irises, lavender and daffodils line the route in amongst trees for a very pleasant commute or an evening stroll. The Lewisham Black Poplar has also been reintroduced into the area and the Greater London Agency and the Environment Agency have invested millions in a river-terracing scheme, which has seen the creation of salt marshes providing both an ecological defence and a haven for wildlife.

Homes at The Squares boast a high specification including sleek kitchens with superb quality integrated appliances, luxury tiled and oak flooring and chic contemporary décor – every aspect of the interiors has been carefully selected to create stylish, elegant living spaces inspired by modern living.

There is a marketing suite and show apartment located on the thriving Village Square, which is the hub of the development and already includes a commercial centre with small shops and a cafe. The Village Square is close to the Ecology Park and the Southern Park and, with its network of paths and cycleways, offers a great location for potential residents to view the new homes on offer and get a great feel for Greenwich Millennium Village life.

The properties are priced from £269,950. For further information, visit gmv.gb.com.
