Lent Pilgrimage to the Holy Land 2014
Lightline Pilgrimages has created the ultimate pre-Easter Holy Week trip entitled ‘A Lent Pilgrimage to the Holy Land’.
For dedicated Christians, the build-up to Easter – known as Holy Week - is as important as the festival itself; so what better place to be than Israel & Palestine, bringing to life the very scenes and places that are so well known from the Bible.
The tour leader for the holiday is The Venerable Peter Hill, Archdeacon of Nottingham.
Highlights of the itinerary will include Caesarea Maritama – the capital of Palestine for over 600 years – a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum (where Jesus taught in the synagogue), Nazareth, Jericho, the Dead Sea, the Mount of Temptations, Jesus’s baptism site on the River Jordan, Jerusalem and the Church of the Nativity at Bethlehem, the literal birthplace of Christianity.
Whilst in the Jerusalem region, the group will visit the Jewish Quarter of the old city – passing remains from the Herodian era – the Western (Wailing) Wall – the holiest place for the Jewish faith – Temple Mount which was the site of the Jewish Temple in Jesus’s day and the Church of St. Anne which is reputed to enshrine the original home of the Virgin Mary.
There will also be a chance to follow in the footsteps of Christ, walking the Stations of the Cross through the Suk to Cavalry within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which covers the place of the resurrection.
Finally on day 11, there will be a stop en route to the airport at the village of Abu Ghosh, which the Crusaders located as Emmaus, the scene of another of Jesus’ post resurrection appearances and finally the church of Our Lady of the Ark of the Covenant – where the Ark is said to have rested for 20 years before King David took it to Jerusalem.
The holiday departs on 14 March 2014 and costs from £1849 per person (two sharing a room).
This includes international flights (BA from Heathrow), 10 nights’ half-board (hotels and guest houses), all ground transportation, site/museum entrance fees and an English-speaking guide.
