Waters Homes' Birstall Plans welcomed by residents

Waters Homes has announced plans for a new development in Birstall, Leicestershire, on the site of a former pub.

The regional housebuilder has submitted an application to build nine new two and three-bedroom properties over almost half an acre of land on Stonehill Avenue in the village.

Previously home to The Trees public house, the plans have already been welcomed by many local residents:

“Before we even acquired the site, we heard from a number of people that they were tired of the noise from The Trees and that its reputation was going downhill,” commented Dominic Waters, development director at Waters Homes.

“Now that our plans have been submitted, we have been contacted by even more people saying that they are glad that the land has been sold and the pub won’t be reopening.”

Plans for the site include the demolition of the former pub, to be replaced with nine properties aimed at young professionals, couples and families. Key features of the planned new homes include bi-fold doors that will completely open up space at the back of the house into the garden, and some will feature an elegant curved wall to the front elevation.

In-line with Water Homes’ commitment to realistic sustainable living, it is planned that each property will include a number of eco features.

Waters Homes is no stranger to the village of Birstall, having previously built eight properties on Rosetree Avenue, just 100 metres from the proposed new development. Each of these properties sold quickly after launch and, as Dominic points out, demand is still high:

“Quite simply Birstall is a great place to live. It’s a thriving and welcoming community, and benefits from being close to Leicester city centre, whilst also having great local amenities and schools on the doorstep.

“When we completed our development on Rosetree Avenue, we were constantly being asked when we would be building more in the area. We hope to be given the green light shortly to start work and bring a small number of quality new homes to a fantastic village.”

Waters Homes has built a number of new housing developments across the East Midlands, including sites at Aylestone in Leicestershire and Sherwood in Nottinghamshire.
