Plans for new Taylor Wimpey Homes in Tharston to go on display

25th February 2014 Print

Taylor Wimpey is inviting people to have their say on its proposals to create a new residential development in Tharston, Norfolk.

The developer is currently preparing detailed plans for up to 120 new homes on land to the east of Chequers Road – a site which already has outline planning permission for a residential development of this scale.

Taylor Wimpey’s proposals will be displayed during a public exhibition taking place at St Mary’s Junior School in Swan Lane, Long Stratton, on Wednesday 5th March between 3pm and 8pm.

This public consultation event will give local residents, businesses, community groups and other interested parties the opportunity to find out more about the scheme and discuss the plans with the Taylor Wimpey project team.

Feedback received from those attending the event will be used to help Taylor Wimpey refine its development proposals before a reserved matters planning application is submitted to South Norfolk Council in the spring.

Mark Chapman, Planning Coordinator for Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, says: “We want to give local people the chance to have their say on our development proposals and by taking part in this public consultation, residents can help to influence our scheme before our planning application is finalised for submission

“We are confident that this development would not only fulfil a need for more high-quality family homes and affordable housing in the local area, but that it would also positively enhance the community for the benefit of everyone.

“Those visiting our public exhibition on Wednesday 5th March will be able to speak to the Taylor Wimpey project team to find out more, as well as tell us how they think our development should look and let us know their aspirations and priorities for the proposed scheme.”

The proposed Taylor Wimpey development site is located on the south-eastern fringes of the Parish of Tharston and Hapton, bounding Long Stratton to the east.

Lying to the east of Chequers Road, the site also borders a section of Long Stratton High School.

Under the proposals, Taylor Wimpey would provide a mix of housing types to suit a range of purchasers, with a proportion of the homes to be made available as affordable housing in accordance with the existing outline planning permission.

The main access to the development would be from Chequers Road, with a secondary access to be created via Jermyn Way as per the details approved at the outline planning application stage.

The proposals include areas of public open space, affordable housing and a footpath link that provides a safe route to Long Stratton High School, St Mary’s Junior School and the Swan Lane doctors’ surgery.

Taylor Wimpey will also contribute towards a range of services and infrastructure provisions for the Tharston community through a Section 106 agreement.

This includes £500,000 towards highways improvements; £53,840 for adults/older children’s recreation facilities; £27,000 for community facilities; £11,736 for nursery education; £10,000 for biodiversity improvements and £7,200 in library contributions.

Taylor Wimpey’s public exhibition is taking place on Wednesday 5th March between 3pm and 8pm at St Mary’s Junior School, Swan Lane, Long Stratton, NR15 2UY.
