Alfa Romeo opts for platinum Bosch spark plugs

22nd August 2007 Print
Bosch has announced that the flagship 3.2-litre V6 engines from Alfa Romeo, available in the 159 saloon, Brera hatchback and Spider convertible models, are fitted exclusively with platinum Bosch spark plugs (part number HR7MPP302). For many years, the company has been at the forefront of developments in direct injection (DI) petrol engines and their spark plugs.

Bosch also supplies the complete DI and ignition system on these engines.

To achieve optimum performance, the extreme conditions within the combustion chamber of direct injection petrol engines, such as the Alfa Romeo V6, require particularly high quality spark plugs. Ignition must be reliable and accurate in all operating conditions, while the high temperatures require excellent heat dissipation and a high level of resistance to wear on the spark plugs.

Bosch supplies spark plugs with laser-welded platinum central electrodes designed specifically to offer maximum performance for high performance DI engines. The laser welding and materials used ensure that the spark plugs, which are subject to a high level of stress, have an exceptional service life of more than 60,000 miles. The smooth insulator bell profile on the plugs, and their specially shaped electrodes, significantly contributes to the high power output and the clean, stable combustion of the V6 direct injection engine.

In addition to Alfa Romeo, Bosch spark plugs are fitted as original equipment by a number of car manufacturers including Audi, BMW, GM, Toyota, Volvo and Volkswagen.
