A road named after Norwich City FC legend Geoffrey Watling has been officially opened at Taylor Wimpey’s NR1 development in Norwich.

Geoffrey Watling Way pays tribute to the local entrepreneur and benefactor who became chairman of City in 1957, a position he held for 16 years. He spent nearly 50 years with the Canaries, serving as vice chairman and then president until his death in 2004, aged 91.

Caroline Carter, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, says: “We are delighted to see Geoffrey Watling Way officially opened in honour of this true Norwich legend.

“Our stunning NR1 development lies just a goal kick away from the Carrow Road ground, so it is fitting that there should be a road named here after a man who did so much for Norwich City over so many years.”

Norwich born and bred and a lifelong City fan, Geoffrey Watling helped to steer the club from near bankruptcy before taking them to a League Cup triumph in 1962 – the club’s first major trophy.

He set up the Geoffrey Watling Charity in 1993 with the aim of helping local good causes and bequeathed the majority of his estate to the charity to help it continue its work.

Superbly located and appointed to present fantastic views over the River Wensum, NR1 offers city living at its best. The Riverside leisure and entertainment complex is right on the doorstep, while Norwich’s main shopping district and railway station are just a short walk away.

Taylor Wimpey has a selection of high-quality apartments currently available to reserve at NR1, including two-bedroom properties from £185,995.

The NR1 Sales Information Centre is located in Geoffrey Watling Way, Norwich, and open Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm and Mondays from 1.30pm to 5pm.
