Visitors have been bowled over by a showhome which opened recently at a new development in a County Durham village.

Milburn Green is taking shape on the former Burnopfield cricket ground – and takes its name from the club’s greatest player, legendary Test cricketer Colin Milburn.

Barratt North East is building homes for first-time buyers and families on the site, whose sale has enabled the development of a new cricket club with modern facilities, including a new pavilion and a function room.

The showhome is a four-bedroom ‘Somerton’ design from the housebuilder’s County Range and features cool colours and contemporary furnishings.

It offers 1,160 sq ft of modern living space and should appeal to growing families.

At its heart is a light and spacious open-plan kitchen and dining room with glazed bay leading out into the garden. There is a separate living room, utility room and cloakroom on the ground floor, plus an integral garage.

On the first floor are three double bedrooms, with an en suite to the master bedroom, a single bedroom and family bathroom.

Fenton Hewitt, Sales Director at Barratt North East, said: “Showhomes are our shop windows and provide a great opportunity for people to come and see for themselves the style and quality of the homes we build.

“Since we opened at Milburn Green four weeks ago there’s been a marked increase in visitors and we’ve had great feedback.

“We’re building a wide range of three and four bedroom homes in nine different designs, to meet local demand for first-time buyer and family homes in the village.”

The development is conveniently located for commuting. Burnopfield is around eight miles from Newcastle and 15 miles from Durham, and close to Stanley, Rowlands Gill and Tanfield, with good road links.

There are schools and leisure amenities on the doorstep, including countryside walks and cycle trails at Chopwell Woods and the beautiful scenery of the North Pennines. The Metrocentre, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure venue, is just six miles away.

When complete, Milburn Green will provide 56 homes. Prices in the first phase range from £144,995 to £240,995 and the Government’s Help to Buy scheme is available, meaning buyers could move in with just a five per cent deposit.

The showhome, on Cricket Terrace, is open Thursday to Monday from 10.00am to 5.00pm. For more information, visit barratthomes.co.uk.
