Volvo reclaims pole position at Widnes Skip

Trading from a state-of-the-art re-cycling centre in Widnes the company has been established since 1999, however as Managing Director Nick Prescott explained the company’s roots were derived many years ago. "Three generations have been involved in the company’s progress allowing it to expand and develop," Nick commented.
The Prescott family have been involved in the road transport industry and general skip hire since the 1930’s. Nick’s Grandfather, Fred Prescott had a waste company for over 45 years. He started the business with just one tractor unit and one skip wagon and at their peak they had over 80 trucks.
Nick carried on the family tradition and set up Widnes Skip and Reclaim Ltd six years ago. Remaining in same industry Nick decided to diversify slightly, placing an emphasis on recycling. Nick stated, "The strategic move allows the business to take larger tonnage and more waste materials. As a consequence, we have had to expand our fleet to cope with the demand."
Recently Widnes Skip and Reclaim have been in the market for a new skip loader. Nick commented that, "A number of vehicles were tested when we were considering the purchase. I wanted a truck that could perform, cope with heavy loads and also looked good."
Nick purchased the Volvo FM12 380hp 8x4 skip loader. The vehicle was plated for 32 tonne GCW and has been specified with Day cab in ‘Fleet’ trim and a straight beam front axle.
"My first impressions of the trucks exterior were fantastic and as soon as I drove the vehicle it just felt right," enthused Nick.
The vehicle was supplied by the local Volvo dealership, Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd., "Thomas Hardie’s overall customer service has been exceptional, from the sales team to their contractors," added Nick. "They have taken care of my every need."
The new Volvo addition will be maintained in-house by Widnes Skip and Reclaims’ on-site garage. The business now has a fleet of 17 trucks in total and plans to purchase further Volvo trucks later this year, as the company attempt to continue their growth.
