Volvo’s attention to detail impresses James Kemball Volvo’s offer to provide a personalised driver training session at the hand-over, plus the effectiveness of the Dynafleet Logger Tool as a means of collecting fleet management data, convinced Felixstowe, Suffolk-based James Kemball Ltd to add a further 12 Volvo FH 6x2 tractor units to their extensive fleet. All the new trucks were sourced from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia in Ipswich.

James Kemball already operate a number of Volvo’s and are reported to be happy with the overall performance of the trucks. The offer of training for those drivers taking on one of the new FH’s provided an important element of added value.

The training involved a personal handover with each of the drivers and lasted for around two hours each. During this time, Volvo staff provided an explanatory tour of both the exterior and interior of the truck, plus a personalised demonstration of the vehicles and a fuel economy drive. This was used to introduce drivers to the I-Shift gearbox and explain how to achieve optimum fuel economy from the trucks.

Other areas covered also include the Volvo warranty, the maintenance package and Volvo Action Service. The comprehensive hand over also helps reduce the admin burden on James Kemball’s Transport Department.

The new trucks are supplied with Globetrotter cabs, Volvo Engine Brake, CB radios, two fire extinguishers and hazchem boards. Also included in the spec is Volvo’s Dynafleet Logger Tool, which is currently being used to track each vehicle as well as measure over the road fuel economy.

The company is considering upgrading to the full Dynafleet package which includes WTD compliance reports, street level mapping and drivers’ hours information for payroll purposes. James Kemball Limited are also investigating the possibility of integrating Dynafleet with their consignment tracking software.
