First I-Shift evens out fuel figures for R.E. Denison & Son of Ipswich

R.E Denison & Son’s new Volvo FH 6x2 artic with smooth-sided Stas tri-axle bulk trailer. Long time East Anglian Volvo operator R. E. Denison & Son has put the company’s first FH tractor unit to be equipped with an I-Shift automated transmission, into service with the fleet.

Rory Denison, who is the owner of the Ipswich-based firm which celebrates 46 years in business this year, says that I-Shift was specified following a successful trial with a demonstrator provided by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia who supplied the new 6x2 artic.

“Our experience is that I-Shift helps to even out the differences in fuel economy between drivers to the point that the truck achieves virtually the same fuel figures with any driver,” says Mr. Denison, who also cites ease of use and the all-round driver-friendliness of the I-Shift gearbox as other important reasons for specifying it in the new Volvo FH.

R. E. Denison & Son are a well known tipper operator and the new FH440 6x2 tractor joins mainly Volvo’s in the 15 vehicle fleet. ‘Hill-hold’ software was also specified with the I-Shift as the truck operates across the UK as well as East Anglia.

The new 44 tonne GCW Volvo FH will be hauling a variety of bulk products from sugar-beet to aggregates.
