Volvo win TNT Logistics’ Euro 4 fuel trial with SCR

Volvo win TNT Logistics’ Euro 4 fuel trial with SCR Two SCR equipped Volvo tractor units, operating at up to 44 tonnes, have won a competitive fuel trial run by TNT Logistics. The winning fuel figure of 9.70 mpg was revealed by TNT, who carefully conducted the test on a tank to tank basis supported by figures from the vehicle’s own Dynafleet systems. Both the Volvo’s were standard production models without modifications or non-standard components.

The two trucks, an FH440 6X2 and an FM400 4x2, both equipped with I-Shift, were used in the real-world, over the road tests with TNT Logistics providing their own drivers, trailers and loads. TNT say that they are pleased with the results following the 4-week trial with the two Volvo’s running on national distribution routes out of their Mendlesham, East Anglia base, saying that they were ‘pleasantly surprised’ by the fuel findings.

The trial was part of a nationwide programme designed by Volvo Trucks to prove the fuel economy benefits of SCR equipped trucks at Euro 4. Many more blue-chip fleet users in the UK have also achieved consistently high results while running Volvo demonstrators in this series of confidential fuel trials conducted by the company with customers over recent months.

The fact that the Volvo’s maintained and exceeded TNT Logistics’ expectations is proof, says Volvo Product Manager Brian Smith, that SCR provides a fuel-efficient solution at Euro 4 and 5.
