Volvo Trucks wins Greenfleet HGV Manufacturer of the Year Award

Volvo Trucks has won the prestigious Greenfleet ‘HGV Manufacturer of the Year’ award in a ceremony recently at Arsenal Football Club’s new Emirates Stadium to recognise and reward best practice in environmental transport policy.

The title, say organisers Greenfleet magazine, was awarded to Volvo Trucks on the basis that the company’s new truck models ‘already meet the Euro 5 emission requirements that come into force in 2009 with the help of Selective Catalytic Reduction technology’, adding that, ‘compared with today’s standard, this cuts emissions of particulates by about 80 per cent while at the same time halving nitrogen oxide emissions. The company recently demonstrated a parallel hybrid truck - a system where the diesel and electric engines work independently and the diesel engine can also run on biofuel’.

The Award itself was presented to Volvo Truck’s PR and Marketing Director Steve Kirk by television presenter and motoring journalist Tiff Needell

The theme of the event, which was attended by, among others, representatives of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, Transport for London, Millbrook Proving Ground and the Safe and Efficient Driving Programme (SAFED), was ‘Right Fuel, Right Vehicle, Right Choice’. The event was organised by Public Sector Enterprises.
