Today members of the Italian Volvo Truck Dealers’ Association delivered a new Volvo FL truck to Pope Benedict XVI, at the end of the weekly general audience held in the Vatican.

The donation from the Italian Volvo Truck Dealers’ Association to the Vatican State was made in conjunction with the official launch of the vehicle in Italy and will be used for construction duties when preparing for major public events at St Peter’s Square.

The Volvo FL is a new model within Volvo Trucks’ medium duty range and was built in Volvo Trucks’ production plant in Gent, Belgium and fitted with a body and crane in Italy by FGM of Castello d’Argile in Bologna.

“The new Volvo FL meets all quality and safety features associated with the Volvo brand,” says Marco Lazzoni, Managing Director of Volvo Italia. “The entire Volvo Truck organisation in Italy is particularly proud of this donation.”

The keys were handed over during a brief ceremony at the end of the audience. Among those present at the Vatican were Claudio Zanella, President of the Italian Volvo Truck Dealers’ Association, Roar Isaksen, President Europe Division of the Volvo Truck Corporation, and Marco Lazzoni, Managing Director of Volvo Italia.

They were introduced by Fredrik Vahlquist, the Swedish Ambassador to the Vatican State.
