Volvo Trucks’ Umeå cab plant paint gets ‘greener’ In an effort to further reduce the total impact on the environment at its Cab plant in Umeå, in Northern Sweden, Volvo Trucks will in future paint plastic components in a new topcoat paint facility.

This facility amounts to a SEK 138m (£10.2m) investment, which is stage 2 of a total investment of SEK 650m (£ 48.3m), which Volvo Trucks has earmarked to further enhance quality in order to meet customer demands for a better finish on the vehicles’ cabs.

The investment for painting plastics means changes in both technology and logistics, in which the paint plant will get an increased number of robots in both the priming and topcoat facilities and a completely new box for inspection and adjustments.

“The changes are being made for reasons of quality, costs and the environment. There are great synergies to be gained by painting both the cab and its components in the same flow,” says Lage Lindfors, plant manager for Volvo Trucks in Umeå. He adds “Volvo stands for quality, safety, and environment, and now Volvo Trucks has a complete, world-class paint facility which focuses on these core values.”
