Bolton Council takes delivery of new fleet of Volvo gritting/snow clearing vehicles

Bolton Council have recently taken delivery of eight new 4x2 new model Volvo FL-H fitted with “Econ” 6 cubic metre Gritter bodies and new easy-fit demountable snowploughs.

Purchased from Thomas Hardie Commercials, the Northwest’s Volvo Truck and Bus Dealership, the new Euro 4 vehicles are Bolton Council’s most dynamic gritters, with the capabilities of operating in the most adverse weather conditions.

To mark the occasion of their arrival, Thomas Hardie Commercials officially handed the vehicles over in a presentation at the Council’s Environmental Services depot in Bolton. Regional Fleet Manager for Thomas Hardie Commercials, David Greenwood presented the vehicles to Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services Councillor, John Byrne and Assistant Head of Service for Vehicle Fleet Management, Ralph Heyes.

As the provider of vehicles to all Bolton Councils departments, the Vehicle Fleet Management team took charge of purchasing the 240bhp 4x2 trucks confident that they would deliver this essential arduous service for the benefit of “The Bolton Family” in all weather conditions.

Ralph Heyes commented that, “Volvo offer a very reliable and cost effective truck,” adding that, “Volvo and Thomas Hardie have a long standing association with Bolton Council; their vehicles coupled with sales and after-sales service are excellent.”

The new Volvo/Gritters will be based at the Environmental Services Depot in Bolton, where they currently operate a number of other vehicles from the Volvo range, including sweepers, refuse vehicles, skip loaders and tippers.

The vehicles will be used across Bolton, protecting the streets from the winter elements. They will be maintained in-house along with the rest of Bolton Council’s Fleet.
