Casino workers aim for charity world records

The news that two casino workers in the north west of England are spending an entire week living in a casino to raise money for carers adds to a long history of world records being broken in casinos.

Veronica Tyson and Tess McDonald are going to be attempting some bizarre world records, such as picking up sweetcorn with a tooth pick, and hula-hooping for as long as possible.

Their round-the-clock efforts are all for a good cause, raising money and awareness for the many thousands of carers who look after people around the clock all over the world.

If they succeed in breaking world records, they will be by no means the first to do so in the casino environment. With so many visitors taking huge risks in their attempts to win big, casinos are a regular site of unique occurrences and gambling one-offs.

Here are four of the best.

Blackjack dealing marathon

A nice traditional casino record to get us started; this one was set by an unnamed Blackjack dealer at the Oracle Casino in Bugibba, who smashed the world record for the longest time spent dealing Blackjack.

While most dealers spend shifts of eight hours dealing Blackjack, incorporating plenty of breaks along the way, the dealer at the Oracle managed to work for a staggering 51 hours, breaking for just 15 minutes every eight hours.

Above and beyond the call of casino duty!

Largest bacon cheeseburger

This might not sound like a casino-related record, and the connection is a loose one, in fairness.

But the fact is that the sheer size of casinos makes them a popular venue for all kinds of gigantic record attempts, and this was exactly the case at the Black Bear Casino Resort near Carlton, Minnesota, where a 2,014-pound bacon cheeseburger was served in 2012, smashing the previous record of 881 pounds.

Most hands of profit-making poker

The rise of high quality online gambling destinations has seen a number of big casino records fall on the web rather than in land-based venues.

Every year, new sites arrive on the scene, offering online gamblers better games and enhanced options, such as the live casino environments that are available on recently launched casino site Get Lucky.

In 2012, Randy ‘Nanonoko’ Lew logged onto the web to set a Guinness World Record for the most hands of poker ever recorded while making a profit.

Turning a profit of just $7.65, Lew managed to play no less than 23,493 hands of poker – refusing to break off even to use the bathroom or to eat!

Biggest payout from online slots

Another fast-growing trend in the casino industry in the last 10 years is the popularity of online slots.

While some early skeptics thought that the appeal of slots wouldn’t be successfully translated to the web, they have been proved wrong and more and more players each year are signing up to casino sites just to take advantage of the slots games on offer.

The largest slot payout ever recorded came on a game called Mega Fortune, with one player winning a life-changing $24 million from a single $0.25 slot game.

With winnings like that, it’s no wonder online slots are so popular.
