Volkswagen triumphs at Fleet World Honours

17th May 2007 Print
Volkswagen Crafter Volkswagen cars and commercial vehicles have scooped a trio of awards at the Fleet World and Van Fleet World Honours ceremony. The Volkswagen Caddy and Crafter vans collected awards as ‘Best Small Van’ and ‘Best Large Van’, while the Golf was named Best Fleet Car. These achievements come hot on the heels of two accolades claimed last month in the Professional Van & Light Truck Awards.

Commenting on the vehicles, Van Fleet World editor, John Kendall said: ‘Drawing heavily on the Volkswagen Golf’s technology, it is hardly surprising that the Caddy is a good drive and has the quality feel of the company’s car range. That has proved good for residual values.’

Regarding the ‘Best Large Van’ award, Kendall said: ‘This gave us one of the toughest choices this year, but the Volkswagen Crafter is a worthy winner. From launch last year, Crafter featured standard load-sensing ESP, recognised as a significant safety enhancement for any vehicle.

‘For a large vehicle, too, Crafter is extremely user friendly, offering one of the best driving experiences of any large van,’ he continued.

These latest awards continue a winning streak that only last month saw the Volkswagen Caddy and Crafter collect trophies for ‘Best Small Van’ and ‘Best Large Panel Van’ at the Professional Van & Light Truck Awards.

The trophy cabinet at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also houses two awards from What Van? magazine in 2006 which named the Crafter ‘Van of the Year’ and gave a ‘Technology’ award to the Caddy for its advanced and efficient DSG gearbox.

Ralf Schueler, head of marketing for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said: ‘To win so many awards is a great honour and underlines the strengths and popularity of the latest Volkswagen van range. The Caddy continues to beat its competitors, the Transporter remains a best-seller and the Crafter is already proving a great success since its launch last year. With a model to offer every customer, it looks like it will be another record breaking year for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.’

Volkswagen passenger cars rounded off the Fleet World awards success as the Golf scooped the Best Fleet Car honour.

Commenting on the award Fleet World editor, Ken Rogers commented: ‘You could say that the Golf is virtually all the car that most drivers need. Also, although it is a high volume product seen every day on the road all around the world, the Golf manages to be uniquely ‘aspirational’ in its sector of the fleet market.’
