Volkswagen Crafter support vehicles for the Tour de France

7th August 2007 Print
Volkswagen Crafter Over 15 million spectators of the high profile Tour de France cycle race this summer saw the Volkswagen Crafter amongst the fleet of Skoda support vehicles accompanying the cyclists during their gruelling 2,200 mile journey from London to Belgium and around France.

Skoda has been the official partner of the event since 2004, but as the Skoda range does not include any commercial vehicles, the Volkswagen Crafter was enlisted to provide the back-up of a large van required for bikes and equipment.

Each of the support vehicles covered over 6,000 miles during the course of the event, which included the contrasts of tough Alpine stages to the city centres of London and Paris.

The Tour de France is one of the world’s largest international sporting events with over 2,000 hours of TV broadcasting to over 200 countries around the globe.

The Volkswagen Crafter is the largest model in the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle range and was voted ‘Van of the Year’ in the What Van? Awards 2006. Full details and the location of the Volkswagen’s nationwide network of unique, dedicated Van Centres can be found at volkswagen-vans.co.uk.
