Volkswagen Transporter shuttles for new holiday service

A fleet of 55 Volkswagen Transporter shuttles is providing a new nationwide ‘Home Connect’ service for coach holiday company, WA Shearings. The Transporter shuttles, which can seat up to eight passengers, will be used to collect holidaymakers direct from their homes and take them to the departure point for their coach holiday, then return them home again after their trip.

The holiday company chose the Transporter shuttle with the 130 PS version of Volkswagen’s five-cylinder, 2.5-litre TDI PD turbodiesel engine together with a luxury specification, which includes: reading lights, air conditioning with rear roof vents and roller blinds for the side windows. The vehicles have also been specified with satellite navigation and a handsfree phone for the driver, plus to aid getting in and out, a mechanism to automatically lower the passenger step has been fitted to the shuttle’s nearside sliding door.

‘Having looked at a number of options it was decided the Volkswagen Transporter shuttle was not only best suited for our needs in terms of passenger comfort and luggage capacity, but also for its excellent whole life operating costs,’ said Jimmy King, Transport Director for WA Shearings.

To aid passenger safety, the Transporter shuttle is equipped with a comprehensive package of safety features, including: Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), and Engine Braking Control (EBC), while every seat has an adjustable head restraint and a seatbelt.

The Volkswagen Van Centre, West Yorkshire – one of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles unique, national network of dedicated van centres – supplied the Transporter shuttle fleet to Shearings through Lloyds TSB autolease. The dedicated Volkswagen Van Centre network will provide servicing and maintenance for the ‘Home Connect’ fleet.
