Record sales for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles
Internationally, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles set a new sales record of 356,000 vehicles in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 11.4 per cent compared to 319,650 vehicles sold in the same period in 2006. This has increased total turnover by 12.1 percent to 6.6 billion euros.Stephan Schaller, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said: ‘Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is on the fast track to a record year. The strong demand in the summer months delivered additional volume rather than purchases that have been brought forward. We stay optimistic for the rest of the year.’
In the same period in the UK, registrations of Volkswagen’s light commercial vans increased by 12.7 per cent to 22,928 vehicles. Within this sales volume Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles sold nearly 2,000 of its passenger carrying models such as the Caravelle and Transporter Shuttle.
Sales of the Caddy in the UK increased dramatically following notable success in the fleet sector, resulting in 6,371 vehicles being sold in the first three quarters of the year; however, the Transporter, which recently celebrated its 60th anniversary and production of over 10 million vehicles, continues to be Volkswagen’s best-selling model in the UK with an increase in sales to 11,021 vehicles in the same period.
Commenting on the UK’s results, Robert Hazelwood, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said: ‘We are delighted to have continued to set new sales records and maintained 3rd place in the LCV market in the UK, which proves Volkswagen vans are more popular than ever.’
