Plans for final phase of former army camp

Schools are set for a windfall of almost half a million pound as part plans for the final phase of the former Saighton Camp near Chester.

A consortium of developers has been regenerating the 34 hectare former army training centre in recent years having divided the land into sections. The final piece of land to be redeveloped is a 9.39 acre site, known as Area C, which has been acquired by Elan Homes and Rowland Homes.

The land benefits from outline planning consent for the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of up to 120 homes.

Between them Elan and Rowland plan to build 105 properties and have submitted a joint reserved matters application detailing their proposals.

Elan are to take the southern section, where they intend to build 40 homes in a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom mews and detached designs; while on the northern parcel of land Rowland plan to build 65 properties including one-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom homes. Both areas will be accessed via Sandy Lane.

“We’re also keen to ensure that the development is sustainable and as such both Elan and Rowland will be investing in the local area for the benefit of the whole community. Between us we will be making a contribution of more than £455,000 to education, plus producing travel plans at a cost of around £113,000.”

Under the plans 25% of the development will be affordable homes – 10 of which will be provided by Elan and 16 by Rowland.

Subject to planning work is expected to start on site in spring 2016, with show homes scheduled to open in autumn 2016.
