How to become more confident with technology

Nowadays, being confident with technology is important. However, the technological boom we're in can sometimes make it hard to keep up. There are few things more frustrating than expecting a laptop, tablet or phone to make things easier, only to find them making things harder, and causing you more stress.

But there are ways to avoid this stress, and anyone with a bit of help can master any machine that seems to be (sometimes deliberately) giving them a hard time.

Google it!

Patronising, but true. This option applies to those who are semi-tech literate. The sort of people who want to know what the shortcuts are on their new Mac, how to convert things into .pdf, how to retrieve files deleted by mistake, or how to record things on a new audio processor they've just installed.

There are thousands of people out there on YouTube with all the information you need. However, the instructions given are often in a language that requires some technical knowledge to understand. So, even good old Google can't be there for everyone.

Phone a friend

We all know someone who knows what they’re talking about when it comes to technology. If you’re really stuck on how to set up that wireless printer, or just can’t seem to connect to the new internet router — why not call them up and ask for some help? Most people that are fluent in tech will be more than happy to give those less able a hand. Believe it or not, the majority of the time it’s not actually that complicated once you’re shown how its done. If you concentrate while watching someone who does know what they’re doing — the chances are that you’ll quickly pick up how to do it yourself.

Asking a computer-smart person for some guidance is a great way to get started on becoming confident with technology. You may be just one simple trick away from working out how to fix your problem. Give someone that’s tech literate a nudge, they may well have the answer.

Professional help

Like many things in life, technology can be a pleasure or a burden. But now there really are no good reasons for it to be the latter. Even if you're stuck at the most basic stages, for example when choosing a new device, there are people out there that can help. Some form of professional guidance could be where you begin your new life, in which technology makes everything easier, and sometimes even more fun.

There's no point being one of those people either resistant to technology or baffled by it. Help is out there, and once you've found it you will very soon feel the benefits of being confident with technology that has, after all, been designed with our needs in mind.
