Bellway celebrates the London Festival of Architecture at The Residence
As part of the London Festival of Architecture, award-winning developer Bellway hosted a ‘Meet The Architects’ event on Saturday 25th June at its flagship residential development, The Residence, part of the Nine Elms South Bank regeneration scheme in Vauxhall. People with an interest in design, architecture, engineering and residential development came along and learned about the process of transforming a two-dimensional design into a place someone can call home.
A month-long celebration, the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) celebrates the ever-changing London skyline, heralding the best in architectural design across the city, with a raft of events, tours and exhibitions. Bellway’s event at The Residence gave visitors an exclusive tour a live building site and access to the expert team responsible for the distinctive structure. As well as an opportunity to see the original plans, visitors were able to discuss how these have translated from paper into practice, with the team of architects who masterminded the design.
Emma Denton, Head of Sales at Bellway Homes Thames Gateway, comments: “What was once the home of Christie’s Auctioneers warehouse is being transformed into hundreds of homes for Londoners. Bellway is thrilled with striking design of The Residence, and enjoyed the chance to showcase the design talent behind this project and help people understand more about how we translate these designs into reality, block by block.
“This year’s LFA theme is community, particularly relevant for The Residence, as the area comes alive with extensive regeneration, creating brand new neighbourhoods. Nine Elms, with thousands of new homes, is soon to be an attractive hub south of the river, with parks, leisure facilities and local amenities – all the perfect ingredients for a thriving community.”
Designed by Maccreanor Lavington Architects, in conjunction with GRID Inside, The Residence is a modern and sustainable development with architectural character that reflects the broad history of the area. Once complete, The Residence will offer an enviable collection of 510 one, two, three and four bedroom apartments and penthouses across four attractive towers - two ten storey towers, one 13 storey tower and one 19 storey tower.
GRID is also working on the interior architecture, designed to be in tune with the exterior of the buildings. The exciting new development will also include 2,475m² of commercial space, to bring new retail and lifestyle amenities to the area.
The new buildings will include a variety of measures to help energy efficiency, designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, including improved insulation, large windows for solar gain as well as support for community recycling. Undercroft car and cycle parking will be available to residents, including some dedicated to disabled drivers, and electric car charging points will be provided.
The Residence is well located just a stone’s throw from the River Thames, a short walk from Vauxhall’s extensive travel connections, making the new homes ideal for commuters. In addition, work has already begun on the Northern Line extension into Battersea, which residents will benefit from. A range of local amenities, including those being built at Battersea Power Station, will keep residents entertained, or it’s a short journey by public transport into Clapham or to Oxford Street.
