1st November 2016 Print

Audi has been associated with manufacturing some of the world’s most exciting and high-quality road vehicles for over a century now. These standout cars have been created with the German car giant’s slogan ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ in mind, which translates to ‘Advancement through technology’.

As demonstrated by the recently revealed Audi R8 Spyder, the manufacturer has plenty of plans to advance vehicle technology even further in the months to come.

New and used Audi stockist Vindis has taken a look at the vehicle hailed by Audi as being ‘the new generation of the convertible super sports car’:

It has been constructed with a multi-material Audi Space Frame

We recommend that you take the Audi R8 Spyder out for a test drive to truly appreciate the car’s design and multi-material Audi Space Frame (ASF).

Crafted from a combination of aluminium and carbon fibre, the R8 Spyder is both strong and lightweight.

In terms of the car’s stats, it has a dry weight of just 1,612k, a body weight of only 208kg and a torsional rigidity that is boosted by more than 50 per cent when compared to its predecessor.

There’s a V10 power unit packed into the Audi R8 Spyder

Operating the Audi R8 Spyder is a potent, mid-mounted ten-cylinder V10 engine, which is capable of delivering 540PS of power and 540Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.

When it comes to getting the R8 Spyder out on the road, the vehicle is capable of reaching 62mph in a mere 3.6 seconds, reaching a blistering top speed of 197mph.

The V10 engine is naturally aspirated and can improve fuel economy by ten per cent thanks to a method called ‘decoupling’ wherever this is achievable.

The cabin features an intelligent control system

An intelligent control system is found aboard the Audi R8 Spyder. With this technology, those behind the wheel of this impressive car can choose from a number of driving systems — like comfort, dynamic, dry, snow and wet modes — and then make use of a handy and intuitively operated MMI navigation unit.

There’s also the exciting prospect that the intelligent control system will allow drivers of the R8 Spyder to become emerged in a fully digital virtual cockpit; rich 3D graphics included.

The Audi R8 Spyder launches across the UK in late 2016, so keep an eye on these Audi offers to see how much you can save on a car that will capture plenty of attention wherever you drive it.
