Leyland double winner in Manufacturing Excellence Awards

For the second year running Leyland Trucks has scored a double win in the annual Manufacturing Excellence Awards (MX Awards).

The MX Awards are the UK’s premier recognition scheme for manufacturing companies. The awards scheme is run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with the support of several of Britain’s leading companies and manufacturing organisations. Each year it attracts entries from hundreds of British companies, many of world-class standing.

Leyland Trucks was the ‘Overall Winner’ in a field of 20 that made it through the demanding judging process to reach the final. At a ceremony in London’s Dorchester hotel presided over by Lord Paddy Ashdown it received the BIS Manufacturing Advisory Service Award for Manufacturing Excellence from Ian Lucas MP, Minister for Business and Regulatory Reform.

The company also won the trophy in the ‘Customer Focus’ category, receiving the PricewaterhouseCoopers Award from Chris Hibbs, manufacturing leader at PwC. This award category focused on the level of service to customers and the robustness of supporting business systems.

In 2008 Leyland Trucks won both the ‘Best Financial Management’ and ‘Logistics and Resource Efficiency’ categories of the MX Awards. It was also a winner in 2004 of the ‘Best Financial Performance’ sector.

Leyland Trucks managing director, Andrea Paver, said that every person in the company should be immensely proud of winning the MX Awards.

“The judging process is extremely thorough and looked at our operations in fine detail,” she said. “It is evident from our success that the judges recognised the contribution that every employee makes to ensure the highest quality products and services for our dealers and customers and the drive to continually improve our business through the strong ‘Team Enterprise’ culture.”

“Winning the Customer Focus award is particularly pleasing in the current challenging market conditions,” she adds. “Receiving independent peer recognition of the enormous effort we put in to understanding and exceeding our customer’s requirements to ensure a long term partnership further differentiates us from the competition.”
